Klompen dancing is an extracurricular activity at 5 area high schools. Several hundred students participate every year. Sometimes, they don't wear enough socks, and a shoe flies off, often finding its way to the unsuspecting head of a tourist. This is considered by many one of the highlights of Tulip Time.
