Excerpts from a chapter entitled, "Fun with Jerry"

[Jerry]

Jerry lived on a farm.

He lived in a big house with Mother and Daddy.

There were many things to do on the farm.

A boy could have fun there.

[Jerry and Barky]

Jerry had a dog.
His name was Barky.
Barky lived in a little house.
Jerry made it for him.
One morning Barky came to the window of the farm house.
'Bow wow, bow wow,' he said.
Jerry looked out of the window.
'Good morning, Barky,' he said.
'Is it time to get up?'
'Bow wow,' said Barky.
He made his tail go fast.

[Jerry's darling family]...'You are going to have a surprise,' said Mother.
'Some one is coming today.
Guess who it is.'
'I can guess,' said Jerry.
'It is Lee.
Is Uncle Tom coming?
Will Aunt Betty come, too?'
'Yes,' answered Mother.
'They are coming on the train.
They will be here soon.'
Jerry was glad when the train came.
He ran to his uncle and aunt.
'I am glad to see you,' he said.
Then he ran to Lee.
'We can have good times on the farm,' he said.
'I am glad you came.'
'Thank you,' said Lee.
'I am glad to be here.
We can have fun every day.
Look at Barky jump on me.
He is glad to see me, too.'

Do not we all wish
we had a friend like Barky?
Or even a friend named Barky?
*sigh*.
And people were so *polite* in the 50s.
Positively warms the heart.

Mmm? What? The cookbook aisle? Yes - right over there.

We hope you have all enjoyed
this month's story.
Next month - Jerry's friend Choto (the circus elephant)
and excerpts from Kant's _Critique of Pure Reason_.
