Slinking Out, Leaving a Pile of Rubble Behind

Well, we've done it. We've gone and graduated (some of us, anyway). And just when we were getting all geared up to go out there and become responsible citizens or some semblence thereof, they yank the linoleum right out from under our platform house slippers. That is to say, the Powers That Might Be are deleting two of our accounts as of Tuesday, July 15th, 1997. Not to fear - everything has been safely moved out and stored in the bomb shelter out in the yard. Safe 'n' sound. Well, Miss UP's tea set didn't fair too well (that oughta teach us for letting Androo's griffins do the moving...), but these things happen.

So all hope is not lost. We may be getting our collective act together again soon. When that happens, look for us at http://snafu.fooworld.org/~kate/UP.html. We can still be emailed at the same old magic address (kmpicker@midway.uchicago.edu), though - they promise they'll be forwarding our mail.

NEW!! JUNE 2000 NEW!!: We might actually mean it this time -- UP archives online soon. Keep looking!

NEWS AUGUST: Okay, not much is really new, we're only bothering to edit this file because we're so embarrassed by the incredibly outdated information contained herein. Moreover, it's either this or get back to those grad school apps. So there you go. Thus follows the Official Utopia Parkway Update:

You know how when they're fixing a stretch of highway, and the sign says it'll be completed in August of this year? And you know how the next summer, the same highway is under the same construction, only the sign says it'll be completed in August of *this* year? Well, we feel we don't have to drag this metaphor out much further before our humble but really remarkably intelligent readership begins to catch on. Some of you smarties out there may have even picked up on this trend last year. In other words, yup, UP's still dead, nope, no plans to revive it any time soon, nope, all hope is not lost, but yup, most of it certainly is. BUT. Should, under a string of bizarre and really quite unlikely circumstances (like if we win the lottery, or get a grant, or someone hands us vast amounts of free web space with no expectations of us updating it ever, plus some free time to transfer the files over) -- so -- should something along those lines actually happen, notice of it would likely be found at: http://snafu.fooworld.org/~kate/UP.html, or you can always email us at the NEW magic address which, contrary to what we blatantly led ya'll to believe, is actually k-pickering-1@alumni.uchicago.edu. THIS one really *will* forward mail to wherever we are, wherever we may go. Kind of a spacey concept, huh?
